November Wrap-up

In this post, I’ll share what I read, how I read it, and my basic star-rating (and why). I’ll also link to any in-depth reviews I’ve done. I’ve also linked each book to Amazon if you want to pick one of these up for yourself!  This post contains affiliate links which means that I will earn a small commission for each book ordered. Here we go — November Wrap-Up:

  1. The Caretakers by Eliza Maxwell – 11/2/20

I listened to this on my Audible App via my Prime Reading perks.  I really enjoyed the multiple-perspective storytelling of this book.  I would classify this as Suspense or Mystery – it had some heart-pounding moments but was overall a slow-burn.  I rated it 3-Stars but the average Goodreads rating is 4.2 Stars – so maybe you will enjoy it more than I did! I chose it because the basic description grabbed my attention but my rating probably reflects the more slow, gothic, mystery feel that I wasn’t particularly expecting.

  1. My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni – 11/8/20

One benefit of Prime Reading is I have discovered some great SERIES of books.  I tend to read more stand-alone novels but this platform has allowed me to discover series of books that leave me waiting expectantly for the next installment.  This book is the first of a series about a female detective in the northeast of the United States.  It definitely read like an extended episode of Law and Order – which, I mean really, who can resist? I ended up giving it 4 stars and it’s Goodreads Average is 4.05.  If you enjoy Police Procedurals – you should definitely check this one out!

  1. Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson – 11/13/20

So, I started this one in mass-market paper-back that I had picked up at my fave local bookshop…then when I was literally 5 chapters from the end, our puppy ATE MY BOOK – like totally destroyed and ripped to pieces (photo) so I had to finish it on my phone and pay ANOTHER $11 for the ebook on Google Play. It. Was. Worth. It. Peter Swanson is a genius with psychological thrillers.  He masterfully weaves non-stop plot motion with characters you want to continue to learn about. I rated this one 5-stars and you can check out my full review here.

  1. Midnight Obsession by Melinda Leigh – 11/15/20

This book was another new series started on Prime Reading/Audible.  I have read (listened to) another series by Melinda Leigh and really enjoyed it so I will probably continue seeking her out as audio books.  What I enjoy about her series is the fact that you don’t have to read them in order (this is actually the 4th in the “series”). She weaves characters in and out of story lines and each book focuses on a new main character with others playing supporting roles. I gave this book 4-stars – it was jam-packed full of action and the serial killer had a very interesting “obsession.”

  1. Sorry I Missed You by Suzy Krause – 11/21/20

I was obviously overloaded on Audible/Prime Reading this month #sorrynotsorry. This one was obviously my one light-hearted, feel-good book for November.  A fun and heart-warming story about 3 different renters of one multi-level home who all work towards finding closure in past relationships.  It’s fun, witty, and heart-warming in all the right places. I gave it 3-stars but if you are a lover of contemporary fiction and Chick Lit – you’ll probably love it!

  1. The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor – 11/25/20

This is a super dark and gritty without a happy ending. You do receive “closure” but the overall feel of the book is darker – basically, no one is the “good guy” that you want to root for.  I started my vacation with this one and flew through it in 2 days – it’s deeply atmospheric and the story pulls you in (kind of like watching a car accident). I gave it 4-stars and you can read my full review here.

  1. One by One by Ruth Ware – 11/27/20

Another one of my vacation reads (finished in two days) – it’s AMAZING how much you can read when you don’t have 3 kids demanding your attention and you are off of work 🙂 Ruth Ware has always been a pretty solid author for me to enjoy and this one is no different!  A easy 4-stars for this book that is vaguely reminiscent of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Full review is coming soon!

  1. Her Final Breath by Robert Dugoni – 11/29/20

Book #2 of the Tracy Crosswhite series (see book #1 above) 🙂 This is a great continuation of the series – Our main protagonist is super likable and you are rooting for her the whole way. This one focuses on a serial killer who is murdering female dancers. Dugoni weaves in excellent characters that pop in for appearances in each book – this one was another 4-star for me and I’ll keep reading (listening to) this series for sure!

So that was my November – how about you? What did you LOVE this month?
